About Altnavoir
Cottage rental includes
A cosy traditional house in the pretty, well appointed village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands. This property makes a comfortable base to tackle the many, many outdoor activities this area has to offer. If required a wealth of local information is available from the owners who live in the house next door, with whom you share the large enclosed garden and, if the chickens are laying, fresh eggs are often offered. Historically the village of Tomintoul, which lies at the heart of Glenlivet - part of the Crown Estate, was known as a stopping place for travellers and the range of services available belies its size, it offers restaurants, pubs, a tea room (converted from the old fire station), arts and crafts and food shops, a museum and a gallery. The surrounding area offers every activity you can think of, from walking trails straight from the village to more challenging hikes in the Cairngorm National Park. The Lecht Ski resort is a 15 minute drive away and has summer pursuits too. Close by you can fish, claypigeon shoot, try archery, arrange a wildlife safari, tour the Glenlivet Distillery, and there are over 100 miles of designated tracks on the Glenlivet Estate to mountain bike or walk. The central position of Altnavoir means that Inverness, the capital of the Highlands is only an hour away, as is Elgin on the Moray coast and Aberdeen is just under 2 hours from here.
