About North End Cottage
Cottage rental includes
4 miles south of Stonehaven at the end of a traditional terrace of fisher cottages perched on the cliffs overlooking the bay and harbour of the historic fishing village of Catterline, the views from North End Cottage are truly breathtaking and unique. Guests can gaze at the sea stretching as far as the eye can see, and listen only to the sound of gulls and waves. From the cottage a path leads down to the harbour and shingle beach below and is only a few minutes walk, whilst a short stroll along the cliff top path will take guests to the Creel Inn, famous for it’s locally caught lobster and crab. Catterline has long been associated with many artists who have been inspired by the dramatic seascapes and idyllic seclusion, and guests at this wonderful cottage will find it easy to see why. North End Cottage has been recently renovated to provide exceptional accommodation, where original wood floors, exposed stone walls, open fires, antique leather sofas and quality furnishings combined with modern touches, give the cottage a certain charm. The sitting room, with it sea views and open fire, is comfortable and stylish and leads to a small sun porch, ideal for sitting with a pair of binoculars and watching the bird life or seals in the bay on those cooler days. You are able to fish in the Rivers Don, Dee or Esk (tickets available in Stonehaven) where you can also hire a boat for sea angling. There are many golf courses in the area, the most famous at Carnoustie, about an hour's drive away. Arbuthnott House and gardens or Dunnottar Castle, a dramatic and evocative ruin, perched on the cliffs and used as a film location for Mel Gibsons’ Hamlet. There are many National Trust for Scotland properties within easy reach including Crathes Castle and Craigivar Castle are all near by. The nearest shops are in Stonehaven with its open air swimming pool and Aberdeen city is only 30 minutes drive with many larger stores.
